1. Why don't you take PayPal
payments?
There
are several reasons why we don't use PayPal anymore on this
website. First, because they threatened to close our account for
selling boxing dvds - claiming that it violates their term of use
agreement. Second, because of this and this and this and this and this and this and according to Google, there
are 20,300,000 websites
with the words "PayPal problems" in them. A little bit of
research on the internet will give anyone, buyer or seller, plenty of
reasons not to use PayPal. Some people have been lucky (so far)
but twenty million, three hundred
thousand websites with mention of PayPal problems pretty
much capped it off for us.
2. Your prices seem high compared to some. And why don't
you sell fights on VHS anymore?
There's
no difference with dvds or tapes than there is with anything else in
life. Cheap is junk and the best costs more. It's just that
simple. Every time you buy something, you decide whether you want
cheap crap or the best you can afford. Don't make the mistake of
thinking all fights are alike, any more than all shoes are alike, all
cars are alike, or all of anything else on the planet is alike. We
charge what we charge because what we have to offer is worth what we
charge - just like the cheap junk you can buy on Ebay or from some
dealers is worth what they charge. There's no magic to it.
The
reason we don't sell fights on VHS is a matter of supply and
demand. When requests for VHS tapes fell to less than 10% of our
workload, it was obvious that the days of VHS are over for most
people. It is no longer worth our time, money, and effort to
maintain a stock of VHS tapes. Dvds are superior recording quality
and players are as cheap as $40.00 each now. There's no reason to
use tapes anymore. If you still use VCRs and collect fights
on tape, step out of the past and into the present. The future is
now.
3.
I don't use NTSC format. Can you provide PAL?
Sorry, we are only
able to record in NTSC format, Region I dvds. However, we
can play dvds from just about anywhere in the world, for all the good
that does.
4.
Why aren't there more pictures of fighters on your site, like on some
other sites?
What's the
point? Sites with pictures plastered all over them are for kids or
for people who can't read.
5. How many rounds will fit
on a T120 (2 hour) dvd disc?
Since we have
a limit of 4 fights and 28 rounds per dvd, it doesn't matter "how many
rounds will fit". We will often exceed my 28 rounds limit if there
is room on the disc, but our goal is never to cram dvds to the last
possible moment. Our goal is to provide the best possible coverage
and video quality.
6. Your limit on DVDs is 28
rounds. Won't a 120 minute DVD hold more than 28 rounds?
Let me know if you
find a site that allows more than 24 rounds per custom dvd other than
this one. If you can find 4 fights that will fit on a 2 hour dvd,
I'll record it, but that's it. No cramming dvds with short fights.
7. Will you make my
DVDs at the LP or EP speed (4 or 6 hour speed) so I can get more fights?
Sure, if you'll pay
twice as much for a 4 hour dvd as for a 2 hour dvd, and 3 times as much
for a 6 hour dvd...why not? But if you think I'd record a 4 or 6
hour dvd for the same price as a 2 hour dvd, you're dreaming.
8. Will you eliminate the
introductions and edit out the between rounds coverage if any so
I can get more rounds or fights on each dvd?
Minimum coverage for fights that have
them is: From ring introductions through official time or
decision. No further editing will be done. I do not edit between
rounds coverage on fights that have such coverage (the rest period
between rounds).
9. I want every minute of my
disc full. Can you edit things to make this possible?
Nope.
Some discs end up full, and some discs end up with blank space on the
end. It all depends on the fights you choose, their length, the
coverage involved, the network, and so forth. 4 fights per disc
regardless of how much time is left on the disc is the policy. If
you don't want dvds with a lot of blank space on them, choose longer fights.
10. Some of the comments on
older bouts say "original broadcast with commercials". Will you
edit out the commercials on those bouts?
Glad
you asked. I do not edit commercials on older original broadcast
fights.
However, only a small number of the fights we offer have
commercials. If you don't want fights with commercials, let me
know. and you can substitute other fights without commercials.
11.
Everything looks too big (or too small) on your site. Why is the
font size so big (or so small)?
The website
was designed for 1024X768 screen resolution, which is the resolution
most used by those visiting our site. If you have a lower screen
resolution, such as the very common 800X600, everything will appear
larger. If you have the old 640X480 screen resolution, the font
and everything else will probably be gigantic and entirely out of
proportion. And, if you are using a resolution greater than
1024X768, the font on the database pages will probably be so small
you'll need to adjust your browser's text size so you can read it more
comfortably. Unfortunately, with all the different screen
resolutions being used at this point in time, it isn't possible to make
the pages look the same for everyone. I won't even mention the
teeth-grinding frustration of trying to get things to look the same on
Mozilla, Opera, and Internet Explorer, etc. It's what gives a
website designer nightmares!
12. I received my order and
noticed that you recorded a few seconds of black screen before the
fight coverage on each bout. Why?
The black screen before and after
every fight adds a professional touch to the recording. I hate to
see fights on dvd where you click on a title and go to a fight already
playing. It looks amateurish and is impossible to make a back-up
copy without losing a few seconds.
13. Some of your
alphabetical files have a lot of pages ("M" has 4 pages). Why not
put them on one page?
There are several
reasons, here is the primary one: We've tested the time it
takes for these pages to load . People are all connected to the
internet at different speeds. For those with slower connections,
or slower computers, the time it takes for the pages to load is very
important, and affects their ability to navigate the fight lists in a
reasonable period of time. No one wants to sit and wait for pages
to load. Making multiple pages is more of a hassle for us, and
less convenient for those who have DSL or fast dial-up connections, but
it makes the lists more convenient for the majority of people visiting
our site.
14. How long will does it
take for me to get my dvds when I order?
Most of the time we ship exactly 7
business days after we receive payment for an order. Business days do not include weekends
or holidays. However, if we receive a few large orders in a two or
three day period, our schedule can be affected. Sometimes we get
orders out faster. But generally we have a backlog of orders to
process and 7 business days from receipt of payment is the usual
time. After that, it's up to the Postal Service.
15. I don't see your name or
location anywhere on this site. Who are you, anyway?
You'll find out when
you order or get a quote. Is that important to you?
Why? You can refer to me as The Duke Of Earl, if you like (nothing
can stop the Duke Of Earl). Isn't that guy dead now? Maybe
something can stop the Duke.
16.
I'd like to contact you by telephone. Can I do that?
There are no
circumstances under which I would give out my personal phone
number. There are a lot of jerks out there who would love to make
harassing phone calls...the same idiots who send fake quote requests,
because they're jealous and can't afford to buy fights, or because their
website is sitting there dead. I already spend many hours a day
dealing with emails and orders - adding phone calls to the workload is
out of the question. Any issue can be dealt with by email.
If you need a phone number before you can order, get one from someone
else.
17. Why all these rules when
I'm paying for the fights?
Making boxing videos is a two-way
street. It has to work for us as well as for you in order for us
to continue making the fights on this site available. Our label
and reputation goes out with every order. Building your boxing
collection with quality recording and presentation makes a better
collection for you, and that's what we're about at
boxingvideoclassics.com. If you don't care what your fights look like,
you'll be happy to know there are plenty of people on the internet who
will be glad to accomodate you, because they don't care what the fights
they send you look like, either.
